WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER?
This qualification consists of four units:
- Working within the Private Security Industry.
- Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry.
- Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry.
- Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry.
DURATION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
It is essential that door supervisors are able to communicate clearly and effectively. As an entry requirement for this course, all learners must have sufficient reading, writing, speaking and listening language skills. All learners must be aged 18 and over. This is a classroom-based course delivered over six full days. The class timings are 9 am to 6 pm.
ASSESSMENT
Unit 1 – Principles of Working in the private security industry
This unit is assessed by a 72-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. The examination duration is 110 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
Unit 2 – Principles of Working as a door supervisor in the private security industry
This unit is assessed by a 60-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. The examination duration is 90 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
Unit 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry
This unit is assessed by a 20-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. The exam duration is 30 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass. The practical assessment for each learner must be visually recorded and is recommended to take approximately 15 minutes per learner.
Unit 4 – Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry
Externally set and marked multiple-choice question (MCQ) examination made up of 30 questions (45 minutes) Pass mark 80%. Additionally, observation of each learner performing every technique with an observation sheet And Q/A session to cover critical areas of PI knowledge. The pass mark is 100%. The practical assessment for each learner must be visually recorded and is recommended to take approximately 15 minutes per learner.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a HABC Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6.
Successful candidates can apply for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence which will allow the individual to operate as a qualified door supervisor in any part of the United Kingdom.
WHY GET THIS QUALIFICATION
All individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.
Once you have obtained the door supervisor licence, you can work in various places such as pubs, clubs, football matches, events, retail outlets, construction sites and many more.
Your working hours can include evening and weekend shifts. Part-time work is very common. You will usually wear a uniform. You will usually be paid around £10 to £15 an hour depending on the place of work.
