Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for an SIA licence.

The Award in Door Supervision (Scotland) (at SCQF Level 6) has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for learners who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a door supervisor within the private security industry.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER?

This qualification consists of three units:
Unit 1: Working within the Private Security Industry
Unit 2: Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
Unit 3: Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry

DURATION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Security operatives are likely to make calls to the emergency services or need to communicate clearly to resolve the conflict. It is therefore essential that security operatives are able to communicate clearly. As an entry requirement, all learners must possess language skills equivalent to ESOL qualification at SCQF Level 5 awarded by SQA. This course is delivered over 4 full days

ASSESSMENT

Unit 1 – Working within the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 40-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. Examination duration is 60 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.

Unit 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 40-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. Examination duration is 60 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.

Unit 3 – Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 20-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. Examination duration is 30 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.

Unit 4 – Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry
Externally set and internally assessed scenario True/False questions and practical assessment 100% pass mark.

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion candidates will receive a HABC Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6.

Successful candidates can apply for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence which will allow the individual to operate as a qualified door supervisor in any part of the United Kingdom
