Local Construction Focus
The Edinburgh Construction Scene
Edinburgh's construction sector is expanding rapidly, with significant projects focusing on historic building renovations, the multi-million-pound St James Quarter expansions, and widespread housing developments in the Lothians. From the tram line extensions in Leith to luxury residential new-builds in the suburbs, the capital is heavily investing in infrastructure. Contractors across Edinburgh strictly enforce health and safety regulations, meaning having your CSCS Green Card is the very first mandatory step to securing a job on-site in the city.
"I needed my CSCS card fast for a job on the tram extension in Leith. Did the online course over the weekend, passed the webcam exam, and got the job. Easiest process ever."

Edinburgh CSCS Training FAQs
Q: What type of construction work is available in Edinburgh?
Edinburgh offers a unique mix of high-end commercial developments in the city centre, extensive historic restorations in the Old Town, and massive residential new-builds on the outskirts, all of which strictly require a CSCS Green Card.
Q: Can I take the exam from my home in Edinburgh?
Yes! Our package is 100% online. You can complete the Highfield E-Learning course and take the remotely invigilated exam from your own home in Edinburgh, avoiding travel to a busy test centre or dealing with city centre traffic.
Q: Is this course the only thing I need for my Green Card?
No. You must also independently book and pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test (often called the touchscreen test) which costs £22.50. This can be done before or after the Level 1 course, but it must be done. The final application for the physical CSCS Green Card costs £36.
Q: Where do I take the CITB Touchscreen test in Edinburgh?
There are Pearson VUE test centres in and around Edinburgh where you can sit the mandatory CITB Touchscreen test. We provide full guidance on how to book this test once you pass our Level 1 course.
Q: Do I need a different card to work on the Edinburgh Tram extension projects?
The CSCS Green Card is the foundational health and safety card required for general labouring on almost all sites, including major civil projects like the trams. Specific roles might require additional machine tickets, but the CSCS card is always step one.
Q: How fast can I get onto an Edinburgh construction site after taking this course?
Once you pass your remote exam, you receive your e-certificate within 48 hours. If you have also passed your CITB Touchscreen test, you can immediately apply for your CSCS card and often start work using your digital confirmation.
Q: How much is the total CSCS Green Card process?
The full breakdown is: £130 for our Level 1 E-Learning course and exam, £22.50 for the mandatory CITB Touchscreen test, and £36 for the CSCS card application fee.
Q: How long is the CSCS Green Card valid for?
The CSCS Green Labourer Card is valid for 5 years. Once those 5 years are up, you will need to renew it, which typically involves taking the CITB Touchscreen test again.
Q: Is this course valid for work across all of Scotland?
Yes, the CSCS Green Card you obtain is a nationally recognized qualification, allowing you to work on managed construction sites in Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Lothians, and anywhere else in the UK.
Q: What equipment do I need for the remote exam?
You simply need a quiet room in your Edinburgh home, a reliable internet connection, and a laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam and microphone so the invigilator can monitor your exam securely.
