Our security guard training course is delivered in a classroom setting over four days. Security guard licence training course is the ideal course if you want to work in retail, construction sites, offices and other sites except for bars, nightclubs and arenas.
The working environments of security guards/security officers can vary and include; civic centres, hostels, care homes, fire stations, museums, leisure centres, sports fields, cemeteries, tourist information offices and almost all buildings/land owned by the local authority where there is a potential risk. The minimum age to attend the course is 18. The class timings are usually 9 am to 6 pm.

This qualification consists of three units:
Unit 1 – Principles of working in the private security industry
Unit 2 – Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry
Unit 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry
Entry Requirements
It is essential that security officers are able to communicate clearly and effectively. As an entry requirement for this course, all learners must have sufficient reading, writing, speaking and listening language skills. All learners must be aged 18 and over. This is a classroom-based course and delivered over four full days. The class timings are 9 am to 6 pm.
Assessment Method
Unit 1 – Principles of working in the private security industry
This unit is assessed by a 72-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. The examination duration is 110 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
Unit 2 – Principles of working as a security officer in the private security industry
This unit is assessed by a 60-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. The examination duration is 90 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
Unit 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry
This unit is assessed by a 20-question multiple-choice examination which is externally set and externally assessed. The exam duration is 30 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
Certification
Successful learners will receive HABC Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6.
Successful candidates can apply for an SIA Security Guard Licence which will allow the individual to operate as a qualified security operative in any part of the United Kingdom
Why Get This Qualification
Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.
This course has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a security officer.
This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the SVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as Security Guarding or Door Supervision.
