Study Mode
Our emergency first aid at work course is delivered in a classroom setting over one day. All learners must have a basic understanding of English reading and writing. The minimum age to attend the course is 14. The class timings are usually 9am to 5pm.
Each delegate receives a first aid training pack for their course. The training pack includes a course workbook, various types of bandages, wipes, gloves, face shields, and more. Learners can use their pack during the course and then take it away to practice with after the course.
Topics Covered
Our emergency first aid course covers the following topics:
- Aims and principles of first aid
- How to assess an incident
- Basic Life Support (CPR & basic use of an AED)
- Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- Provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- Provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Assessment and treatment of burns
- Assessment and treatment of minor injuries
- Record keeping
Assessment Method
This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and a multiple-choice theory test.
Certification
Successful learners will receive the Highfield Award in Emergency First Aid at Work at SCQF Level 6. This course meets the requirements specified by the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The qualification remains valid for 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Additionally, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
Who Should Take This Emergency First Aid at Work Course?
The objective of this qualification is to support learners in becoming emergency first aiders in the workplace. The content of the qualification meets the HSE requirements for training emergency first-aiders. It is especially suited for nominated first aiders in smaller, low-risk working environments.
