Our emergency paediatric first aid course is delivered in a classroom setting over one day. The course focuses on emergencies that can arise when looking after young children and infants. The minimum age to attend the course is 16. The class timings are usually 9am to 5pm
What Does This Qualification Cover?
Topics include:
- The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first-aider
- Assessing an emergency situation safely
- CPR and AED
- Administering first aid to a choking infant or child
- Putting a casualty in the recovery position
- Dealing with shock, bleeds, bites, stings and minor injuries
Assessment Method
This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and a multiple-choice theory test.
Certification
Successful learners will receive Highfield Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF). The qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Additionally, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
Who Should Take This Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course?
Our emergency paediatric first aid course is suitable for people working with young children or live in a setting where children are present. This includes:
- Those who have gained a level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early year setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with the EYFS requirements.
- Anyone who cares for infants and children, such as parents, guardians, grandparents or those who have an involvement with infants and children and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills
Please note that childminders and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current full paediatric first aid certificate. This emergency paediatric first aid course will not meet the Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Registration requirements as it is designed to supplement paediatric first aid course.
