Study Mode
Our paediatric first aid course is delivered via blended learning. One part is delivered online (e-learning) whereas the other is taught in a classroom setting over one day. The course focuses on emergencies that can arise when looking after young children and infants. The minimum age to attend the course is 16. The class timings are usually 9am to 5pm.
Each delegate receives a first aid training pack for their course. The training pack includes a course workbook, various types of bandages, wipes, gloves, face shields, and more. Learners can use their pack during the course and then take it away to practice with after the course.
Topics Covered
Topics include the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first-aider and providing first aid for an infant or a child who is unresponsive. The qualification also covers how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with head and spinal injuries, who is choking or suffering from anaphylaxis.
Assessment Method
This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and a multiple-choice theory test.
Certification
Successful learners will receive Highfield Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF). The qualification remains valid for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Additionally, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

Learners gaining this qualification will know that first aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Topics within this course are regarded by the Early Years Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel.
