WHAT DOES THIS COURSE COVER?
This qualification consists of the following units:
- Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in The Private Security Industry
- Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
DURATION AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
It is essential that security officers are able to communicate clearly and effectively. As an entry requirement for this course, all learners must have sufficient reading, writing, speaking and listening language skills. All learners must be aged 18 and over. This course is delivered in a classroom setting over one full day. The class timings are 9 am to 5 pm.
ASSESSMENT
Unit 1 – Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in The Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 10-question multiple-choice examination. The examination duration is 20 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
Unit 2 – Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 16-question multiple-choice examination. The examination duration is 25 minutes. Learners must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a Highfield Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Top-Up). The qualification is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). This qualification is supported by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which regulates the private security industry.
Successful candidates can then apply to renew their SIA Security Officer Licence. This licence should allow the individual to operate as a qualified security officer in any part of the United Kingdom.
WHY GET THIS QUALIFICATION
Any business conducting guarding activity to secure a building or site may need trained security staff qualified as security officers who hold an SIA licence. It is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualification requirements.
